About the Farm

Background

Located on tranquil Whidbey Island, Washington, this family business has become known for raising alpacas and angora bunnies, shearing their fleeces, and transforming the fiber into luxurious handspun yarns. The children participate in 4-H with their alpacas and have won top state honors for their animals and fleeces. They have also established a quaint retail storefront and have been recognized as the 2nd Greenest Business on Whidbey Island.

Practices

The farm does not send out alpaca fleeces to a mill; instead, they drumcard on Fricke Finest at home, gently wash the fiber with French olive oil soap or Brown's lamb gentle wash (no additives), dye at home, and handspin in their own studio. This process ensures an environmentally friendly, totally homegrown fiber production.

The Rest

In addition to producing their own fibers, the business carries fibers from other local farms and offers handspun and eco hand-dyed yarns. They also teach classes, sharing their knowledge and skills with the community.
