About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2000, Warm Colors Apiary produces regional honey from flowers in western Massachusetts. Located on eighty acres of woodland, open fields, and wetlands, the land provides a variety and abundance of nectar and pollen plants that bloom from early spring to late fall. The apiary has been a certified member of the Russian Honeybee Breeders Association since 2016 and received the 2018 'Local Hero Award' from CISA.
Practices
The mission focuses on developing, testing, and using beekeeping methods that improve the health of the honeybee. Through selective breeding, the apiary manages a sustainable system that minimizes the use of harmful chemicals and employs natural defenses and heritable behaviors to improve mite tolerance and disease resistance. The farm emphasizes proactive management, early detection, and prevention of disease and pests, aiming to raise honeybees capable of surviving New England winters.
The Rest
Warm Colors Apiary offers apiary tours, beekeeping workshops, and equipment sales. They provide pollination services to local orchards and farms, and beekeepers can purchase queens and honeybees. The apiary also hosts events through the Franklin County Beekeepers’ Association and has been featured in media interviews. Nature trails are open from June to October, and CSA products are available for on-farm pickup.
