About the Farm
Background
John Coward grew up working on his father's farm in Massachusetts, raising shade tobacco. In 1985, John and his wife Teresa purchased property to start their own tobacco fields and Christmas tree farm. Initially starting with a shack and some trees, the farm expanded significantly over the years. In 2008, they acquired additional land to build a gift shop barn, and by 2013, they ventured into growing flowers, herbs, and shrubs with the addition of greenhouses. Today, the farm employs about a dozen people and offers a wide range of plants and trees throughout the year.
Practices
The farm emphasizes quality by using the best seeds, suppliers, and fertilizers to ensure long-lasting plants and trees. They have built greenhouses to extend their growing capabilities and offer a variety of annuals and perennials. Their approach integrates seasonal offerings, adapting to the changing weather to provide pumpkins, mums, and cornstalks in the fall, and Christmas trees and festive decorations in the winter.
The Rest
The farm features a gift shop with primitive decorations and antique furniture, thanks to partnerships with local craftsmen and designers. They also offer a variety of seasonal activities such as a mini corn maze and a pumpkin patch. The friendly and helpful staff are always ready to assist with gardening questions or carrying heavy bags to customers' cars. The farm is open seasonally, with specific hours for spring, fall, and Christmas seasons.
