About the Farm

Background

The Herb Lyceum has been operated by the Gilson family since the 1800s. David Gilson, the current head of the household, has spent decades transforming the landscape to host events. The farm is located in Groton, Massachusetts, and features a masterfully renovated 19th-century carriage house on the Gilson Family Homestead. The farm is known for its fragrant herb gardens, greenhouses, and flowering trees, providing a rustic charm for special events.

Practices

All crops are grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, although the farm has not applied for organic certification. Soil is tested before planting to ensure it is healthy, uncontaminated, and suitable for growing food without synthetic inputs. The farm strives to develop sustainable, low-input systems for all operations. While organic certification is a multi-year process complicated by changing sites, the farm currently operates under 'all natural' practices.

The Rest

The farm offers field-to-table dining experiences guided by the farm’s bounty, featuring communal dining in a cozy carriage house. The site provides a charming setting for intimate garden events.
