About the Farm

Background

Located in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on 30 acres of rustic natural farmland, the farm has been home to a variety of sheep, turkeys, and chickens. Back in 2010, pigs became a part of the family. The farm is regularly managed with the help of its border collies who assist with daily farm chores and overall livestock management.

Practices

The farm operates in an environmentally friendly manner, raising all animals free-range without the use of hormones or antibiotics. Sheep are naturally raised on pasture to produce lean meat and clean quality fleeces for hand spinning or felting. Ducks and chickens are free-range, producing an abundance of tasty and nutritional eggs. The border collies play a crucial role in managing the livestock, holding the sheep off during feeding, moving them to different pastures, and sorting them into various feeding groups.

The Rest

Visitors are welcome by appointment only. The farm offers a wide variety of products and services including border collie herding training and lessons, freezer or feeder lambs, farm fresh chicken eggs, wool for spinning or felting, and various cuts of lamb. The North East Border Collie Association and the United States Border Collie Handlers' Association are associated with the farm, promoting and protecting the Border Collie as a working stock dog.
