About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2000 by Russell Singleton, a descendant of a long line of farmers, the farm is located on the historic family homestead in Sumter, South Carolina. Russell left his job in construction to return to agriculture, driven by a love for the land instilled by his grandparents. The farm is a family affair, with Russell's son Jeff managing the chicken operation, his wife Lesa helping with farmers markets, and his daughter Lora handling tech support and branding.
Practices
The farm raises heritage pig breeds such as Berkshire, Duroc, Tamworth, Yorkshire crosses, and Spotted hogs, which are known for their superior meat quality and foraging abilities. Pigs are given free access to woods and pastures, where they can root, graze, and roll in the mud. Their diet includes locally sourced, high-protein hog feed. The farm avoids antibiotics and hormones, ensuring minimal illness through a healthy environment and ample space. Chickens are raised from chicks in a spacious house with outdoor access, producing large, tasty brown eggs. The farm partners with Williamsburg Packing Company, a certified humane slaughterhouse, to ensure respectful and pain-free processing.
The Rest
Farm visits and tours are available by appointment. Products are sold directly from the farm and at several farmers markets. The farm emphasizes transparency and traceability, overseeing every step from breeding to butchering. Customers can check the farm's website and Facebook page for more information and locations.
