About the Farm

Background

In 2009, 40 acres south of Wrenshall, MN were purchased from Kathy Ziells, who allowed work to start on the farm before the official ownership. The land, previously a hayfield, had loamy soil classified as prime farmland. Catherine Conover, with a background in vegetable farming, and Elden Lindamood, an architect and artist, co-own the farm. The farm's history is intertwined with the Ziebarth family, who raised beef cattle and harvested hay on the land for many years.

Practices

The farm employs sustainable growing methods, using manure for fertilizer, floating row covers to protect crops from pests, and manual labor for weed removal. A cover crop of rye was planted after initial plowing and fertilization with aged manure. In 2019, the farm achieved Certified Organic status.

The Rest

Catherine Conover began her farming journey as an apprentice at Caretaker Farm and later worked at Food Farm. Elden Lindamood, the farm's Facilities Director, designed their energy-efficient home. The farm welcomes CSA members to visit, with a request to call ahead. The farm features hoop greenhouses for starting plants and growing tomatoes.
