About the Farm
Background
Founded with a mission to end racism and injustice in the food system, the farm has become a beacon for food sovereignty and community self-determination. Over the years, it has provided training for Black and Brown growers, initiated reparations and land return programs, and conducted food justice workshops for urban youth. In 2015, the farm observed Shmita, a year of rest and radical wealth redistribution, pausing some of its regular programs to focus on infrastructure and fundraising.
Practices
With deep reverence for the land and the wisdom of ancestors, the farm employs sustainable agriculture, natural building, and spiritual activism. The farm's practices are rooted in the belief that every seven years, the land must rest and replenish, as taught by Hebrew ancestors. This philosophy extends to their approach to food sovereignty, community building, and gift economics.
The Rest
The farm's food sovereignty programs reach over 35,000 people annually, offering doorstep harvest delivery for food insecure households and home gardens for city-dwellers. It also provides systems and policy education for public decision-makers and is a 501c3 nonprofit educational organization.
