About the Farm

Background

The orchard, originally established in the 1970s in Hollis, was taken over in 2015 with the goal of preserving its iconic status and maintaining the health and productivity of the trees. Initially managed using conventional methods, the current owners transitioned to organic practices after two years, aiming to create a healthier environment for themselves, their community, and the ecosystem.

Practices

The farm employs organic practices, avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Natural insect deterrents such as organic kaolin clay and pheromone mating disruptions are used, along with organic sprays. Fertilization is achieved through inputs like fish oil and seaweed. Weed control is managed with organic mulch and hand-weeding, eliminating the need for herbicides. Falcon perches and a nesting box are utilized for natural rodent control.

The Rest

The farm features a self-serve farm stand operating on the honor system, allowing visitors to come and go without hassle. Picking dates for apples typically run from the last weekend in August through mid-October, seven days a week from 8am to 7pm. Peaches were planted and ready for picking in August 2019, with grapes and peaches expected to produce by 2020.
