About the Farm
Background
Some of the Gravenstein apple trees were planted in 1887, and the farm is located near the site where Nathaniel Griffith and Luther Burbank first introduced the Gravenstein to Sonoma County in the 1880s. Originally a working farm with ten acres of Gravenstein apples planted in the 1950s, it now has approximately two acres of surviving trees.
Practices
The farm uses no pesticides or chemicals and has focused on reviving the apple trees by clearing encroaching oak trees, bay trees, blackberry bushes, poison oak vines, and dead wood over the past five years.
The Rest
The farm offers both 'Old Fashioned Yellow' and the lesser-regarded but still tasty Red variety of Gravenstein apples, available for purchase at a farm stand in the driveway or through orders and visits arranged via the website.
