About the Farm
Background
Established in 2002 by Scott Sauchuk on the historic Samson Homestead, the farm has expanded significantly, acquiring over 175 acres of farmland between 2012 and 2018. Known for its large-scale corn maze opened in 2007, the farm has also developed orchards of apple, peach, and pear trees, and fields of blueberry bushes between 2019 and 2023. The farm's roots trace back to the early eighteenth century, and it has a Ukrainian heritage through the owner's family.
Practices
Sauchuk Farm employs integrated pest management (IPM), monitoring for insects and diseases and intervening only when economic loss is imminent. While not certified organic, the farm frequently uses organic methods and sprays. All produce is harvested by hand and sold locally, with varieties chosen for their taste rather than their shipping and storage capabilities.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of pick-your-own opportunities, including strawberries, blueberries, and pumpkins, and operates a 200-share CSA. Additionally, it sells potted flowers and vegetable plants in May and June, and runs a popular corn maze from mid-September to the end of October. The farmstand is a central hub for direct consumer sales.
