About the Farm
Background
The farm, established in 1874 by Nikki's great-great-grandfather, has been in the family for 150 years. Scott and Nikki both come from agricultural backgrounds and have extensive experience in animal husbandry and farming. They began their meat business by raising and selling beef to friends and family, eventually transitioning to a full-time operation after the death of Nikki's father in 2000. Scott left his research position in 2001 to manage the farm, and Nikki joined him full-time in 2005 after the birth of their twin boys.
Practices
The farm raises cattle, sheep, hogs, and chickens on pasture, ensuring they have plenty of room to roam, sunshine, fresh air, and exercise. They use no hormones or routine antibiotics and feed the animals primarily locally-grown feedstuffs. The farm emphasizes soil health and biodiversity, integrating a variety of animals and plants to create a vibrant and productive ecosystem. They work with neighboring farmers for hay and straw and use family-owned butcher shops for meat processing. The farm maintains a peaceful environment for the animals, treating them calmly and respectfully.
The Rest
The farm offers discounted volume packages of various meats and sells products by appointment at their on-farm store and other local locations. They have a strong commitment to their community, volunteering as soccer coaches and 4-H leaders. They provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee and enjoy educating customers about meat cuts, cooking options, and recipes.
