About the Farm
Background
Growing up not 3 kilometers from what now is Rosedene Acres, Larry has a strong connection to the land and farming. Within several years of completing their degrees in Agricultural Science and Health Promotion, Larry and Alison’s ideal property came available and Larry jumped at the opportunity to follow his passion. Together they strive to hone their processes and improve the quality of life for their animals. The Moore family has been farming in the Niagara region for over 200 years, using age-old farming practices to naturally raise healthy herds of beef cattle.
Practices
The farm raises cattle on natural pastures of various grasses and legumes without the use of hormones or sub-therapeutic antibiotics. The animals are free from stressors such as overcrowding, permanent indoor housing, or long shipping distances. They are allowed free range of various pastures, hay, and shelter, even during winter months. The cattle are not fattened on grain, corn, soy, or other weight gain supplements, and are fed only chemical-free grass and hay. The farm uses a dry-aging process for the beef, typically aging it between 14 and 21 days to enhance flavor and tenderness. Grazing practices help move pastures through their seasonal cycles, and manure is used as natural fertilizer, enhancing soil quality rather than creating waste management problems.
The Rest
The farm offers custom freezer orders, mixed quarters, sides, full animals, and sample boxes of grass-fed beef. The beef contains higher levels of Omega-3s, vitamins, CLA, and minerals compared to grain-fed beef. Customers can pick up their orders at a local butcher shop or arrange for delivery. The farm emphasizes ethical treatment of customers and suppliers, compliance with laws and regulations, and maintaining a safe work environment for their team.
