About the Farm
Background
4 Seasons Farm LLC has a long family history in the beef business. Bob VanKirk grew up on a beef farm and has developed a herd of 100 Registered Devons plus commercial cattle, totaling approximately 250 head. The farm is known for producing some of the best Registered Devons available through a breeding plan that includes artificial insemination, embryo transplants, and natural service. The family has become fond of the Devon disposition and performance on grass, making them a great choice for grass-fed forage-only operations.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing, moving cattle to fresh paddocks every 1-4 days, and feeds no antibiotics, hormones, grains, or animal byproducts. Cattle are rotationally grazed 8-9 months of the year, fed hay in the winter, and provided with salt and organic minerals. They are finished on fields of grass, including alfalfa, clover, and timothy. The farm practices ethical animal husbandry and focuses on the benefits of grass-raised beef, which include higher vitamins and minerals, higher conjugated linoleic acid, higher omega-3 fatty acids, and lower saturated fat.
The Rest
The farm has an open-door policy and welcomes visitors, enjoying helping other farmers get started or improve their herds. They offer quality natural grass-fed beef and pastured pork, and have expanded their operations to meet the needs of family and friends. The farm also provides top genetics through semen sales and often has select cattle for sale. Food with integrity is their motto, ensuring no hormones, antibiotics, or animal byproducts are ever fed.
