About the Farm
Background
Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, a first-generation family farm, was established in 1994 as the first Certified Organic vegetable farm on Long Island’s North Fork. Farmers Matt Kurek and Maggie Wood began growing for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to create a reliable market for their produce and foster a direct connection with the community. After 30 years on Long Island, the farm relocated to southern Vermont in 2023, working with the Vermont Land Trust to preserve the agricultural heritage of their new farmland.
Practices
The farm employs a blend of innovative methods and ancient practices that honor the land, focusing on USDA-Certified Organic and regenerative farming techniques. Their philosophy emphasizes growing food to nourish the community while building and maintaining healthy soil for future generations. The farm's commitment to organic and regenerative practices is evident in their dedication to preserving the land through conservation easements.
The Rest
The farm acknowledges its location on Abenaki land, one of the earliest known farm sites along the Connecticut River, with archaeological evidence of historical farming activity. They offer a variety of CSA shares, including vegetable, fruit, and egg shares, and provide resources such as weekly newsletters, recipes, and a vegetable guide to support their CSA members.
