About the Farm
Background
The Scanlan family welcomes visitors to their cozy acreage located just southwest of Rochester, Minnesota. Known as the Red Barn Learning Farm, it has become a beloved destination for families and groups since its opening in Fall 2012. The farm is featured in Radish Magazine and offers a variety of activities and events throughout the year, including public hours for family fun, group tours, and facilities for birthday parties and corporate events.
Practices
The farm raises heritage breed Red Bourbon turkeys and pasture-raised chickens, ensuring the animals have ample space to roam and forage. They also produce fresh eggs and a variety of heirloom produce. The farm emphasizes hands-on learning and the values of farming, particularly for children, through activities like pick-your-own produce and interactive experiences with barnyard animals. The farm is proudly USDA certified and insured.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, adventure barnyard, and straw play loft, providing a full farm experience for children. Seasonal activities include pumpkin picking in the Fall. The farm offers group tours by appointment and is available for private events. Admission varies by season, and the farm accepts both cash and cards. It is important to check weather conditions before visiting, as the farm is not always open during inclement weather. Updates are available on their Facebook page.
