About the Farm
Background
Matt and Sarah Skoglund started North Bridger Bison in 2018 in the Shields Valley of Montana. The ranch is known for its commitment to producing healthy, delicious bison meat while also focusing on conservation. The Skoglund family, including their children Otto and Greta, along with their pets, are deeply involved in the ranch's operations. In April 2022, they placed their land into a conservation easement with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust to protect it from development forever.
Practices
North Bridger Bison employs Holistic Management and Regenerative Agriculture principles. The bison graze on diverse grasslands year-round, which helps build soil, improve soil quality, increase water retention, and enhance the diversity of grasses, forbs, and wildflowers. Field-harvesting each bison on the ranch minimizes stress for the animals and results in healthier meat. The ranch's practices contribute to carbon storage in the soil, aiding in climate change mitigation.
The Rest
The ranch is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including sage grouse, pronghorn antelope, sandhill cranes, coyotes, mule deer, wolves, moose, mountain lions, elk, black bears, waterfowl, and songbirds. Matt Skoglund is a board member of the Western Sustainability Exchange and the Bozeman Community Food Co-op, and Sarah Skoglund is a board member of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust. The ranch ships bison meat throughout the United States via UPS and is committed to being good community members and contributing to Montana's economy.
