About the Farm
Background
The farm has a rich history of raising Jersey cows and producing high-quality dairy products. Known for their commitment to maintaining the purity of the Jersey breed, they have been breeding their cows for A2A2 milk, which is easier to digest for many people. The farm also offers a variety of other products, including pastured pork, broiler chickens, and a range of organic and handmade goods.
Practices
The farm employs a range of sustainable and organic farming practices. Cows graze on pastures for 8-9 months of the year and are rotated twice daily to fresh paddocks. During the winter, cows are housed in a large barn and fed certified organic alfalfa baleage and local grass hay. The farm uses certified organic fish emulsion, liquefied sea salt, and coral calcium for pasture maintenance. They also spread barnyard litter back on the fields. The farm promotes raw, non-pasteurized, and non-homogenized milk, believing it retains beneficial enzymes and bacteria. They use a Co-pulsation milking system to ensure cow comfort and reduce mastitis. The farm also focuses on polled genetics to avoid the need for dehorning.
The Rest
The farm store offers a wide range of products, including grass-fed beef, pastured pork, organically-fed soy-free broiler chickens, handmade soap, granola, beef jerky, pork snack sticks, grits, cornmeal, maple syrup, raw honey, beeswax candles, and more. The cows are known by name and are halter-trained, making them calm and friendly. The farm also uses Free Choice Enterprises' 20 Mineral Program to ensure cows get the exact minerals they need.
