About the Farm
Background
Sprout City Farms, established in Denver, CO, manages several urban farms including the Mountair Park Community Farm, which began in 2014, and the Denver Green School Community Farm, which started in 2011. They have expanded their efforts to a third site at the Dahlia Campus for Health and Well-Being in 2016. Known for their commitment to food justice, they distribute over half of their harvest to neighbors facing food insecurity and collaborate with local communities to improve food access.
Practices
Sprout City Farms employs small-scale organic farming methods that encourage biodiversity, soil building, and pollinator protection. They transform underutilized land into spaces for community-rooted food production and are dedicated to sustainable stewardship. Their approach includes educational programs for all ages, volunteer days, and community events, fostering a deep connection between the land and the community.
The Rest
The farms offer CSA share programs, weekly farm stands, and produce donations to local food relief programs. They host workshops, field trips, and tours, and engage in thought leadership within Denver’s urban agriculture movement. Sprout City Farms is a founding member of Mile High Farmers and actively participates in policy change and capacity building to support local food systems.
