About the Farm
Background
Mountain Roots Food Project began in 2010 to address the community's need for backyard and community gardens. The Farm to School program was launched in 2011, and 501(c)(3) status was achieved in 2012. Over the years, the organization has expanded to manage five urban gardens and run a district-wide Farm to School program serving 2,000 youth from pre-k through college.
Practices
The organization focuses on sustainable food production and environmental education. They manage urban gardens and a community farm, emphasizing the importance of local food systems and ecological health. Their practices include fresh food donation programs, doubling food stamps at farmers markets, and offering free cooking and nutrition classes to low-income families.
The Rest
In addition to their farming and educational initiatives, they run a multi-farmer CSA to support emerging small-scale farmers and improve food access across all income levels.
