About the Farm
Background
The farm is operated by Jamie, Cory, and their three daughters, who are fifth- and sixth-generation farmers in east-central Iowa within the Mississippi River Basin. Jamie transitioned the family farm from a conventional model to a regenerative model over the past decade, focusing on the health of the land, animals, and humans. They are dedicated to eliminating the carbon footprint of meat production.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative farming practices, raising grass-fed and grass-finished lamb and beef on diverse pastures of clover, grass, alfalfa, and forbs. The cattle are moved to fresh grass daily, sometimes twice a day. Pastured pork is fed non-GMO grain and lives in timber areas, disrupting the earth and eliminating brush and weeds. Pastured poultry is moved daily in portable cages to fresh grass, leaving behind fertilizer and having access to non-GMO grain. Laying hens roam freely, cleaning up weed seeds and bugs, and scratching fertilizer into the soil. No antibiotics or hormones are used, and the animals are tended to daily with experienced, loving care.
The Rest
The farm offers tours throughout the growing season, attends farmers markets, and provides local drop point delivery. They hire interns interested in learning about direct marketing and regenerative ranch practices. The farm serves individuals, restaurants, and CSA add-ons. They emphasize transparency and education about the importance of regenerative ranching.
