About the Farm
Background
In 2004, the Ferguson family fell in love with a piece of property outside Stilson, GA, and founded their farm to build their families, become sustainable, and raise their own food. Initially focused on grassfed beef, they expanded to include pigs, chickens, turkeys, and eggs due to increasing demand from family and friends. Over time, they opened MooMa’s Farm Store, built a processing facility, and gained recognition in the culinary world, winning awards such as the 'Flavor of Georgia Award' for their pork sausage.
Practices
The farm raises and finishes cattle on grass, allowing them to roam and graze freely. Pigs are pastured, free to roam and root naturally, while chickens get their nutrients from the fields, resulting in tastier meat and richer eggs. No added growth hormones, steroids, or antibiotics are used, and animals are not confined to feedlots or cages. The farm practices rotational grazing, uses donkeys to protect herds, and employs natural pest control methods with martins, bats, dragonflies, and guineas. Honey bees help pollinate grasses, and chickens help spread manure and eat insect larvae.
The Rest
The farm hosts agrotourism events and parties, and offers curriculum-based educational tours to teach the next generation about agriculture and food. Their products have been featured in magazines, newspapers, and TV programs, and they supply many award-winning chefs dedicated to buying local.
