About the Farm
Background
Home Sweet Orchard is a home school-family owned and operated farm known for its diverse apple varieties and freshly pressed apple cider. The farm has established itself as a local staple, selling produce at farmers markets and a roadside stand from early August through late November. In addition to apples, the farm also grows sweet cherries and various vegetables, and raises Icelandic sheep and chickens.
Practices
The farm prides itself on being 'better than organic,' ensuring that their orchard range meat chickens are kept safe from harmful chemicals. They use a commercial grade apple press to produce cider and apple syrup, not only from their own apples but also from those of other local orchards or individuals. Icelandic sheep graze in the fields, contributing to the farm's ecosystem by providing meat and wool.
The Rest
The farm offers eight varieties of apples, two varieties of sweet cherries, asparagus in the spring, and potatoes from late summer to fall. Fresh or frozen meat chickens are available by July for orders placed in advance, and farm-fresh eggs can be requested. Meat and wool from Icelandic sheep are available in the fall, with wool also available in the spring.
