About the Farm
Background
In its 25th year of farming, this operation is located in the historic Hayhurst Valley, a few miles west of Yoncalla, Oregon. The farm spans 83 acres of mixed forest and bottom land along the eastern margins of the Oregon Coast Range, at the northernmost extension of the Umpqua River basin. The land has been in organic production for 27 years, never having been conventionally farmed.
Practices
Following certified organic standards, the farm ensures that its land remains untouched by conventional farming methods. The presence of a small year-round stream, Billy Creek, supports narrow riparian wetlands and fertile alluvial bottom lands, contributing to the farm's rich biodiversity. The surrounding hills, adorned with firs and ferns, further enhance the ecological balance.
The Rest
Garden starts and produce are available at independent retail nursery outlets such as Down To Earth Garden Stores, Gray’s Garden Centers, Market of Choice Stores, and Douglas County Farmers Coop, as well as at Farmers’ Market stands several days a week. The farm produces a variety of crops including celeriac, beets, carrots, winter squash, potatoes, onions, salad greens, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, mesclun, and various colored peppers.
