About the Farm
Background
Located in the historic Loess Hills in Mondamin, Iowa, this independent farm has a rich heritage of producing a variety of high-quality products. Known for their Belted Galloway cattle raised for grass-fed beef, they also offer purebred ABCA Border Collies and AKC Japanese Akitas. The farm has a tradition of preserving old farming practices while providing a range of handmade crafts and goods.
Practices
Chickens are raised in cages to protect them from predators and reduce stress, which enhances flavor. These cages are moved twice daily to ensure fresh pasture access. The farm's chickens and eggs are produced without hormones or antibiotics. Silver Laced Wyandottes, a heritage breed known for excellent foraging, provide free-range brown eggs. The farm also produces goats' milk and goats' milk soap, emphasizing natural methods without growth hormones or antibiotics.
The Rest
In addition to poultry and beef, the farm offers a variety of handmade crafts including quilting, stained glass, beading, knitting, embroidery, and photography. Their Bread and Butter Pickles are a popular item, often selling out quickly. The farm is open to visitors with specific hours and also operates an online store. They emphasize the uniqueness of each handmade soap bar and offer free samples to ensure customer satisfaction.
