About the Farm
Background
Filaree Garlic Farm has been a family-owned grower and supplier of premium quality organic garlic seed since 1977. Known for stewarding the largest collection of garlic in North America available to the public, the farm's mission is to preserve the integrity and provide others the opportunity to grow more than 100 strains of garlic collected from around the world. Since 2010, they have expanded their offerings to include shallot sets, seed potatoes, asparagus crowns, and sweet potato slips, serving organic gardeners, plant nurseries, and commercial growers.
Practices
Located in North Central Washington State in the sunny Okanogan Valley, the farm benefits from cold winters and hot, dry summers. Crops are watered from streams fed by snowpack in the Cascade Mountains. The farm is certified annually by the WSDA, and all seed is certified organic, although occasionally non-organic seeds are offered if they meet quality standards. These non-organic products are clearly labeled and are non-GMO, often grown with organic methods. The farm regularly tests its garlic seed for diseases such as harmful nematodes and white rot, with seed experts constantly monitoring and eliminating any plants that do not exhibit vigorous growth.
The Rest
The farm's seed has proven to grow well in climates throughout the United States. They are committed to providing disease-free seed and maintaining high-quality standards. The farm also offers a variety of other products including certified organic food garlic, seed potatoes, and shallots. They serve a diverse customer base, including organic gardeners, plant nurseries, and small-scale commercial growers.
