About the Farm

Background

Founded in 1989 as an outreach of an urban peace and justice community, the farm initially operated in Orono, Minnesota before moving to western Wisconsin in 1995. In 1997, the farm purchased neighboring land with the financial help of over sixty members and placed a conservation easement on the property to protect it in perpetuity.

Practices

The farm emphasizes soil stewardship and sustainable farming practices, continually learning and applying new methods each season. The land is viewed as a teacher rather than a possession, and members are encouraged to volunteer and learn about the farming process. Efforts include planting trees, taking erodible land out of production, and monitoring the health of other life forms on the farm.

The Rest

The farm offers regular season shares, fruit shares, and extended season shares with drop-sites in 14 locations and at the farm itself. Community involvement is a cornerstone, with programs like 'Sharing the Harvest' distributing produce to those without access to fresh, organic vegetables. The farm is located on a scenic forty-acre property on the bluff of the St. Croix River, surrounded by woods, ponds, lakes, and rolling farmland.
