About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2015 at the Viva Farms incubator, the farm relocated to its current 35-acre property in Bow, WA in 2021. Owned and operated by Amy Frye and Jacob Slosberg, the farm has become a regional source of high-quality produce, selling through grocery stores, wholesale distributors, a winter CSA program, and a year-round farm stand. Amy's farming roots trace back to her grandparents' farm in Minnesota, while Jacob's love for the outdoors began in Seattle. The couple met at the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the University of British Columbia’s organic farm.
Practices
The farm is Certified Organic and Salmon-Safe Certified, adhering to organic practices that exclude synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Soil fertility is enhanced through cover cropping and crop rotations, while pests are managed by fostering habitats for beneficial insects and using organic inputs when necessary. Weeds are controlled through tractor cultivation and hand weeding. The farm also raises pasture-raised chickens and grows a variety of specialty crops including radicchio and peppers.
The Rest
The farm operates a self-serve farm stand open daily year-round, offering their produce and goods from other local vendors. Their products are distributed throughout Washington, Oregon, California, and beyond, available at local markets, restaurants, and retailers. The farm also runs a 325-member winter CSA program providing local food from November through March in Seattle, Skagit Valley, and Bellingham.
