About the Farm

Background

Agriberry Farm has been a staple in the community for its premium fruits and berries. Since opening a certified commercial kitchen in April 2013, they have expanded their offerings to include high-quality fruit jams, preserves, and sauces. They are known for their direct sales at over 20 farmer's markets and farm stands weekly, CSA subscription programs in Metro Richmond and Annapolis, MD, and wholesale distribution.

Practices

The farm employs safe, sustainable practices to cultivate a variety of fruits including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, plums, cherries, blueberries, and Muscadine grapes. They have a unique focus on growing Chickasaw blackberries, a variety not commercially expanded due to its thorny canes and large fruits. Farmer Chuck collaborates with breeders through the North American Raspberry and Blackberry Association to propagate this special variety. The farm also engages in community-oriented practices such as hosting educational tours for young students and supporting gleaning efforts by the Hanover Master Gardeners, who donate harvested berries to community food banks and pantries.

The Rest

The farm is a vibrant hub of activity, especially during the summer berry season. They host educational tours for various groups, including summer camps and middle school students focusing on landscape design, event planning, hospitality, entrepreneurship, culinary arts, and pastry arts. The farm's robust harvest crew includes over 50 workers, many of whom are experiencing their first job. Agriberry Farm also offers recipes and cooking tips through their social media channels and bi-weekly newsletter.
