About the Farm
Background
The story begins with a boy and a girl who grew up together, fell in love, and pursued their passion for animals and nature by majoring in Biology in college. After marriage, they faced health challenges, including the girl's diagnosis with Crohn's disease, which led them to adopt an organic, whole-foods diet. Starting with a few chickens for eggs, their interest in farming grew, leading them to acquire more animals and eventually find a larger parcel of land that felt like home. They expanded their farm to include a variety of livestock and began raising meat for themselves and others, as well as starting a Vegetable CSA.
Practices
The farm emphasizes humane methods of butchering, inspired by documentaries like Food, Inc. They are committed to raising their animals with care and respect, ensuring that their practices align with their values of health and sustainability. Their approach to farming is deeply influenced by their desire to provide nutritious food for their family and community while maintaining ethical treatment of animals.
The Rest
The farm offers a range of services, including dairy goats, buck service, and a CSA program. They also share their journey and farming experiences through a blog, inviting others to join them in their pursuit of growing good food. The boy, now a farmer, continues to work off-farm as an electrical estimator and project manager, while they hope to eventually support their family solely through their farming endeavors.
